Every market in London is lovely and unique in it’s own way.
Of the 6 we visited below, Borough, Brick Lane and Spiatsfield Markets were the standouts. These photos were taken in September 2022 the weather was perfect.
Apple Market
21, The Market Building, London WC2E 8RD, United Kingdom
Covent Garden’s Apple Market is a lovely market filled with stalls selling mostly handmade goods, crafts, jewelry, handmade soaps, collectibles and unique gifts. There is an interesting selection of goods on display and perfect for those who like to browse through bric-a-brac. Even if you aren’t planning to shop, it’s an enjoyable stroll browsing and enjoying the market vibes
Jubilee Market
1 Tavistock St, London WC2E 8BD, United Kingdom – Located in Jubilee Hall
Covent Garden’s Jubilee Market is a more budget friendly market where vendors display their wares. Some stalls are unique while others showcase traditional cheaper London-themed souvenirs and trinkets. Having a variety of stalls in close proximity make it a nice place to browse for souvenirs or special gifts.
Seven Dials Market
35 Earlham St, London WC2H 9LD, United Kingdom
Seven Dials Market is a two story food court located in Covent Gardens. The market is home to an eclectic variety of street food stands and food stalls with cuisine options from across the globe.
The vendors offer budget friendly food options and the market has a lot of seating space. This is a great option for anyone, especially families, looking for quick and inexpensive meal choices.
This market is quite different from the others we visited as it felt more like a mall food court but with quality food experiences. It’s worth a quick walk through even if you chose to not to eat there. You can grab a dish off the conveyor-belt stand upstairs and take a selfie on the huge banana seat before you head off to your next London experience.
Borough Market
8 Southwark Street, London SE1 1TL England
Borough Market is located in the heart of London and is a really cool large and open-air market, similar to what most town’s would refer to as a Farmer’s Market. Vendors offer a wide variety of produce, meat, food, cheese, sweets, and other freshly made products. There are also some amazing street food vendors you’ll want to try. This was one of my favorite markets and, like most of the markets, we found by wandering the streets and stumbling into these unexpected gems. I could have spent hours just shopping or sampling small items at each booth. If you are a fan of sweets, you’ll be drooling over the oversized brownies, baked goods and other mouthwatering treats.
There are three main areas of the market. Green Market is where you’ll find produce and specialty product vendors. Three Crown Square houses larger merchants. Borough Market Kitchen is where the street food vendors are located.
Spitalfields Market
56 Brushfield St, London E1 6AA, United Kingdom
Spitalfields Market is a lively market in the artsy Shoreditch district in the East End of London. It’s filled with independent vendors selling a variety of clothing, home items, jewelry, art, bric-a-brac and gourmet products.
The market also offers several food and pastry vendors. It’s a great stop for a bite but the seating is limited. We had a delicious lunch (Pizza and Poke Bowls) and a HUGE donut for dessert.
The Margherita Pizza from Sud Italia was delicious. Having just been in Italy a few months prior, this pizza in London was better than most of the pizzas I tried in Rome and almost as good as pizza we ate in Florence. Don’t hesitate to give them a try. They get a gold star for customer service too. Another patron accidentally took the pizza meant for us so the vendor had to remake our pizza. To apologize for the inconvenience, gave us a 2nd pizza of our choice for free. Good food and good customer service in one place? Win-Win!
Brick Lane Market
91 Brick Lane, London E1 6QL England
On Brick Lane you’ll find another great market in the Shoreditch district, surrounded by the backdrop of London’s famed street art. It’s just a couple minute walk to Spitafields Market but Brick Lane has a totally different vibe.
Brick Lane Market houses a number of markets centered on Brick Lane. Here you’ll find a hipster vibe and vintage items, music, eclectic shops, a man challenging onlookers to rounds of speed chess. The vendors sell food from diverse ethnic cultures. It’s a fabulous place to go with friends and try different cuisines and pastries from other cultures.
Although I am an adventurous eater, I was stopped in my tracks by the most AMAZING grilled cheese sandwich I ever had. That grilled cheese was too good to pass up and I’m still dreaming about it today!
